Bridging the Severn

A breezy visit to St Woolos Cathedral in Newport and then across the Severn from Wales to England and on to my brother’s home at Abbots Leigh (of hymn tune fame). The parish church looked warm and inviting in the sunshine but a tad austere within.

Church, well, but no chalice

Popped in to St Gwyndaf’s Church, parts of which are from the 7th century, and visited the holy well dedicated to him at the tiny settlement of Llanwnda near Fishguard, Pembrokeshire. The French nicked the ancient chalice in 1797 during the last invasion of Britain by a foreign army.
